Your refrigerator is one of the most expensive appliances to run. Here are five ways to keep your fridge from running up your energy bill:
- When purchasing a refrigerator, insist on an Energy Star-qualified model.
- Keep door seals clean and check for cracks. Repair cracks if necessary.
- Clean the condenser coils. First unplug the appliance, then vacuum and wipe the coils gently with a rag.
- Monitor your temperature control. If the temperature is set too low, it will cost more to run.
- Do not cram too much into your refrigerator. Leave room around your food for air to circulate.
