Sleeping on a worn or uncomfortable mattress doesn’t just make you tired, it gives you aches and pains, too. The wrong mattress doesn’t just affect your sleep quality, it alsoaffects blood circulation, muscle fatigue, chronic lower back pain, and overall well-being due to inadequate spinal support and pressure points.
A sure-fire way to avoid these problems is to make sure the mattress conforms to the curve of your lower back. And that isn’t hard to do: just take a rest test!
First, lie on the bed for a good 10 to 15 minutes in order to allow the mattress to adjust to your body weight and shape. Then, have someone slide their hand under the curve ofyour lower back. Their hand should just fit between your body and the mattress. If there is too much space, the mattress is too firm. If there isn’t enough space for a hand tofit, the mattress is too soft. You may also try the same rest test under your neck (without a pillow).
And that’s all there is to it. Fifteen minutes and a quick slip of a hand is all it takes to verify the appropriate firmness of a mattress for your body contour for restfulnights and ache-free mornings!
