Changes and Innovations in the Appliance World

by BrandSource Canada

High-End Appliances Are Getting Mainstream Attention

One of the most important changes to take place in the appliance world is the trend towards high-end and/or commercial style appliances. People may not have as much time to cook as they used to but when they do, they want to enjoy the ease of use – and the sheer efficiency – of quality appliances. Whether it is energy saving and faster-cooking induction cook tops, practical double ovens, commercial-style six-burner gas cooktops, fast-cool option refridgerators, expensive made-to-measure appliances, or small appliances like hot water dispensers, high-end and commercial appliances are increasingly becoming mainstream.

Built-in Appliances – Sleeker Looking Kitchen

From cooking family dinners to having a cup of coffee with the neighbour or supervising the kids' homework, the kitchen has always been the heart of the home. In the last decades, it has also been a focal point – a centerpiece featuring great design and stylish accessories. Often opened to the dining and living room, the kitchen now tends to look less 'kitcheny' and more like a place to gather and entertain. As a result, a trend towards appliances within an integrated look has emerged. Cabinet panels – refrigerators or dishwashers' fronts, for instance – are created to hide major appliances within cabinetry and generate a sleeker look.

Green Appliances

Energy Star appliances have been around for a while and are a great starting point to a greener home. The label guaranties that a given appliance is at least 20% more energy efficient than regular products, thus helping you conserve valuable natural resources and, also, save money. Appliances using non-traditional technologies are, however, worth considering if a greener, more efficient home is a goal you wish to meet. Induction cooktops, which make for faster cooking and prevent heat transfer loss, are a great example of that. Washing machines using less water and/or detergent have also become mainstream. Advances are currently being made in this department and we might even see virtually waterless or detergent-less washing machines make their way into mainstream appliance stores in the near future.
